Naples is a salty water city. Its origins arr rooted in the legend of a mermaid, parthenope, brought here by the currents, on the shores of megaride (where now Castel dell’Ovo rises). There she was found by some fishermen who worshipped her as a goddess. Once landed on this island, the mermaid’s body dissolved into the parthenopian landforms. Since then, as charmed, the city is referred to as “parthenopian city”, and the beautiful mermaid its symbol.
